Ortiz Decides Hermida Should Get A Chance

This past Tuesday, David Ortiz decided that it was time for someone else to have a little bit of the heroic limelight. With the bases loaded and no outs, he gallantly sacrificed one of his own at-bats to ground into a double play, a move he must have calculated to build further drama. All seemed lost, another opportunity blown, but a hero rose, and Hermida hit a three-run double later that inning to propel the Red Sox into a 5-1 victory over the Angels.

Ortiz has been generous with allowing other players to step up all season. He has sacrificed many of his at-bats, allowing himself a mere .149 average, so that other people on the team can shine and pick up the so-called “slack”. That’s what I call a team player. Hermida apparently agrees, and was quoted as saying,”that shows what kind of teammate he is and what kind of guy he is.”

If only every player could just be as selfless as David Ortiz.
