Holmes Traded to the Jets

It was announced today that wide-receiver Santonio Holmes was traded by the Pittsburgh Steelers to the New York Jets for a 5th round draft pick. Holmes recently violated League rules regarding illegal substance usage. What exactly that violation was is unclear, and it could be anything from testing positive to an illegal substance to simply missing a drug test. He will be suspended for the first four games of the season.

Word from the inside is that the Steelers would have let Holmes go if they were unable to trade him. The Jets are hoping that the School of Rex Ryan can whip Holmes into shape and put an end to his off field troubles, which include a domestic abuse accusation in 2006 and an arrest for the possession of marijuana in 2008.

The Jets have been making some big moves this off-season, acquiring “Old Man” Tomlinson and Antonio “Lazy” Cromartie and still courting Jason “I should’ve been Defensive MVP” Taylor. Holmes should provide another solid receiver option for Mark Sanchez to target in addition to Braylon “I’ll catch it if I feel like it” Edwards. But it will remain to be seen if the suspension to start the season will affect Holmes’ game at all.
