The Tools of Ignorance

Sorry this is a bit late this week. I’ve been on a 5 day coke binge with Ron Washington.

Around the A.L.
First and foremost: Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Ryan Westmorland who underwent brain surgery this week in Phoenix. The Red Sox are being understandably tight lipped but did describe in a press release the surgery as successful. I’ll have more Red Sox tomorrow.

Other than that the biggest story this week has to be the Ranger’s manager taking down some Bolivian marching powder. Was this a night on the road that got a little out of control or could Washington have a coke problem? If so, could you imagine a worse drug to be hooked on as a manager? Snap decisions, mood swings, paranoia, crazy stupid ideas that make terrific sense at the time….

All kidding aside, Texas has a potential super star in Josh Hamilton, you think having a manager dealing with a potential drug problem is worth the risk of messing with Hamilton’s head? Washington must have been pretty convincing in his conversation with ownership.

Not a whole lot out of the A.L. this week besides the aforementioned coke scandal and Rule 5 draftees getting returned. Rosters are getting set up as more and more stars appear on the lineup card.

In way too big a market news, David Ortiz hit a home run and Justin “I refuse to call him Joba” Chamberlain managed to pitch three innings without stinking the place up. If all goes well their two teams might finish first and second in their division. Oh, and John Smoltz didn’t retire, he’s just pitching for TBS now

More Sox stuff to follow soon
